Charging Capabilities and Time
The BMW 740Le plug-in hybrid can be charged using both a home wallbox and a portable charging device. The vehicle supports a maximum charging power of 3.7 kW. Charging with higher-powered charging stations is possible, but the charging time won’t decrease as the power is limited by the vehicle itself.

Compatible Charging Stations
For the BMW 740Le plug-in hybrid, we recommend charging stations with power up to 3.7 kW. Although you can use higher-powered devices (7.4 kW, 11 kW, or 22 kW), the car will always charge at its maximum capacity of 3.7 kW. If you plan to purchase a fully electric vehicle in the future, consider a charging station with higher power output (e.g., 11 kW).
Charging Cables and Portable Chargers
The BMW 740Le plug-in hybrid uses a Type 2 (Mennekes) connector and charges with single-phase current up to 3.7 kW. You can use either a single-phase or three-phase cable, though the higher-powered option won’t speed up charging but may be useful for future needs.
Portable charging devices are an economical and flexible option for charging through a standard outlet (220V). For the 7.4 kWh battery capacity, charging time with a portable charger is about 3 hours. It’s important to monitor the electrical installation load when using 16A portable charging devices.
