Wallbox Charging
The BMW i4 eDrive40 / M50 / xDrive40 can charge at a maximum of 11 kW AC. It’s recommended to use a wallbox with this power rating to optimize charging time. Even if you purchase a higher-powered wallbox (e.g., 22 kW), the vehicle will only charge at 11 kW. If your electrical network doesn’t support high power, you can use a lower-powered wallbox.
Electrical Panel Compatibility
It’s important to check whether you have three-phase power at home or at your workplace. Only then will you be able to charge at the full 11 kW power. If you only have single-phase power, the maximum power will be limited to 3.7 kW, regardless of the charging station. In this case, it’s advisable to consider installing a three-phase connection for future compatibility.
Mobile Charging Stations
Mobile charging stations are practical for emergency situations or when a fixed station isn’t available. They plug into a standard outlet (220V) and provide power up to 3.7 kW. With a capacity of 81.3 kWh, charging with a mobile charger takes significantly longer – use it primarily as a backup option.
