Charging Options and Charging Time
| Station Type | Voltage / Current | Power | Time |
| Mobile Charger (2.3 kW) | 230 V / 1×10 A | 2.3 kW | ≈35 h 10 m |
| Single-phase 16 A (3.7 kW) | 230 V / 1×16 A | 3.7 kW | ≈21 h 50 m |
| Single-phase 25 A (5.8 kW) | 230 V / 1×25 A | 5.8 kW | ≈13 h 55 m |
| Single-phase 32 A (7.4 kW) | 230 V / 1×32 A | 7.4 kW | ≈10 h 55 m |
| Three-phase 16 A (11 kW) | 400 V / 3×16 A | 11 kW | ≈7 h 25 m |
Charging Cables
The BMW i4 xDrive40 uses a Mennekes Type 2 connector and supports three-phase charging up to 11 kW. Use a Type 2 cable suitable for three-phase charging. With a 22 kW cable, charging will be limited to 11 kW according to the vehicle’s capabilities.
Charging Stations (EV Chargers)
Although you can choose a charging station with higher power, the BMW i4 xDrive40 will charge at its maximum of 11 kW. A charging station with lower power is useful if your electrical installation doesn’t support high amperage.
Main EV Charger options:
• 3.7 kW (single-phase, 16 A) – charges at 3.7 kW.
• 7.4 kW (single-phase, 32 A) – charges up to 7.4 kW, but the vehicle will accept 3.7 kW.
• 11 kW (three-phase, 16 A) – charges at full 11 kW.
• 22 kW (three-phase, 32 A) – the vehicle will accept maximum 11 kW.
Connection to the Electrical Panel (Installation)
The choice of charging station also depends on the available phase in your electrical panel:
– With three-phase power supply (3×16 A or more), you can use the full capacity of 11 kW.
– With single-phase power supply, it’s limited to 3.7 kW even with a higher-powered charging station.
If you plan to upgrade to three-phase power, you can install a three-phase station and temporarily connect it to single phase.
Mobile Charging Device
Mobile chargers (portable EV Chargers) plug into a standard outlet (230 V) and offer 2.3 kW or 3.7 kW power. For the BMW i4 xDrive40, due to its significant battery capacity, we recommend the mobile charger as a backup option.
