Charging Options and Time
The Hyundai IONIQ Electric can be charged in different ways depending on the available electrical installation. Below are the charging options with approximate times:
| Charging Method | Power | Charging Time |
|---|---|---|
| Mobile charger (2.3 kW) | 2.3 kW | 19 h 45 min |
| Single-phase 16A | 3.7 kW | 12 h 15 min |
| Single-phase 25A | 5.8 kW | 8 h |
| Single-phase 32A | 7.2 kW* | 6 h 15 min |
| Three-phase 16A | 3.7 kW* | 12 h 15 min |
| Three-phase 25A | 5.8 kW* | 8 h |
| Three-phase 32A | 7.2 kW* | 6 h 15 min |
* Maximum power is limited by the vehicle
Charging Cable
The Hyundai IONIQ Electric uses a Type 2 (Mennekes) connector. It supports single-phase charging with a maximum power of 7.2 kW. It is recommended to use a cable rated at least 7.4 kW, as a lower-rated cable (e.g. 3.7 kW) will be insufficient.
Wallbox Charging Station
The maximum AC charging power for the Hyundai IONIQ Electric is 7.2 kW. For best efficiency, we recommend using a wallbox device. Four standard wallbox power levels are available, but keep in mind that the charging station will not exceed the car’s capability:
- 3.7 kW (1 phase, 16A): up to 3.7 kW
- 7.4 kW (1 phase, 32A): up to 7.2 kW
- 11 kW (3 phases, 16A): up to 3.7 kW
- 22 kW (3 phases, 32A): up to 7.2 kW
Compatibility with Electrical Panel
When choosing a wallbox, it is important to know whether you have a single-phase or three-phase installation. To achieve the full 7.2 kW power, you need sufficient capacity on one phase, which is often not possible. In such a case, choose a wallbox with manual or dynamic load balancing.
Mobile Charging Station
You can also charge the Hyundai IONIQ Electric using a standard socket with a mobile charging station. This is a convenient solution for emergencies or as a backup option. Mobile chargers usually support 2.3 or 3.7 kW.
