Charging Options and Time
The Hyundai IONIQ Plug-in Hybrid has a maximum AC charging power of 3.7 kW. Below is the approximate charging time with different devices:
| Charger Type | Voltage / Amperage | Power | Charging Time |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mobile charger (2.3 kW) | 230V / 1x10A | 2.3 kW | 3 h 52 min |
| Single-phase 16A | 230V / 1x16A | 3.7 kW | 2 h 24 min |
| Single-phase 25A | 230V / 1x16A | 3.7 kW* | 2 h 24 min |
| Single-phase 32A | 230V / 1x16A | 3.7 kW* | 2 h 24 min |
| Three-phase 16A | 230V / 1x16A | 3.7 kW* | 2 h 24 min |
| Three-phase 25A | 230V / 1x16A | 3.7 kW* | 2 h 24 min |
| Three-phase 32A | 230V / 1x16A | 3.7 kW* | 2 h 24 min |
* Charging is limited by the vehicle’s onboard charger.
Charging Cables
The Hyundai IONIQ Plug-in Hybrid uses a Type 2 (Mennekes) plug and supports single-phase charging up to 3.7 kW. Both single-phase and three-phase cables can be used – as long as they are Type 2.
Wallbox Charging Stations
Although the car charges at a maximum of 3.7 kW, you can use wallbox stations with higher power – they won’t increase speed but also won’t cause harm. Example options:
- 3.7 kW (1 phase, 16A)
- 7.4 kW (1 phase, 32A)
- 11 kW (3 phases, 16A)
- 22 kW (3 phases, 32A) – charging will be limited to 3.7 kW
Connection to Electrical Network
The Hyundai IONIQ Plug-in Hybrid does not require a special electrical installation – almost every panel supports 16A (3.7 kW). However, if you plan to buy a fully electric vehicle in the future, investing in a three-phase wallbox with 11 kW capacity will provide long-term flexibility.
Mobile Charging Stations
Charging via a mobile station (portable EV charger) from a standard household socket (220V) is perfectly suitable for this model. With a battery capacity of 8.9 kWh, even a 2.3 kW charger will be sufficiently fast. However, it is recommended to monitor the load on the electrical network if other appliances are running on the same circuit.
