The Hyundai Kona Electric 65 kWh supports a maximum AC charging power of up to 11 kW. Below are the different charging options depending on the station type:
* Charging speed is limited by the vehicle’s capacity.
Charging Cable
For charging the Hyundai Kona Electric 65 kWh, a Type 2 (Mennekes) cable is required. The car supports three-phase charging up to 11 kW, so it is recommended to use a three-phase cable rated at least 11 or 22 kW.
Wallbox Charging Station
Charging via a wallbox is recommended for this model due to the high battery capacity. It is important to consider not only the charging station’s power but also the capability of your electrical panel. The car will not charge faster than 11 kW, even if a higher-power station is used.
Possible wallbox options:
- 3.7 kW (1 phase, 16A)
- 7.4 kW (1 phase, 32A)
- 11 kW (3 phases, 16A)
- 22 kW (3 phases, 32A)
Connection to Electrical Panel
The maximum charging speed can only be achieved if you have a three-phase connection (min. 3x16A). If you currently only have a single-phase installation, you can use it temporarily and upgrade to three-phase later. The installation should be assessed by a professional, especially when using high-power charging stations.
Mobile Charging Station
When you don’t have a permanent charging point, a mobile station is a great solution. The Hyundai Kona Electric 65 kWh can be charged via a standard 220V socket using a Type 2 mobile charger. This option is mainly suitable as a backup due to the slower charging speed (2.3 – 3.7 kW).
