Charging cables for the Volkswagen e-Up! Gen 2
The e-Up! Gen 2 uses a Type 2 (Mennekes) connector and supports single-phase charging up to 7.2 kW. You need to use a cable rated for at least 7.4 kW. Cables with lower capacity (e.g. 3.7 kW) will not be suitable for efficient charging.
Wallbox Charging Stations
Charging via a wallbox is the most practical solution for the e-Up! Gen 2. The car supports a maximum of – 7.2 kW, which allows charging in about 5 hours. Suitable options include:
– 3.7 kW (1 phase, 16A): up to 3.7 kW charging
– 7.4 kW (1 phase, 32A): up to 7.2 kW charging
– 11 kW (3 phase, 16A): up to 3.7 kW charging
– 22 kW (3 phase, 32A): up to 7.2 kW charging
Electrical installation requirements
The choice of wallbox should also take your electrical panel into account. If you have a single-phase supply, make sure you have sufficient capacity to charge at 7.2 kW. With a three-phase connection, a wallbox with dynamic load balancing is recommended in order to make optimal use of the available power.
Mobile Charging Stations
Mobile charging stations are convenient for charging from a standard household socket. They support 2.3 or 3.7 kW. Due to the larger battery of the Gen 2 version, the mobile station is mainly suitable for emergency or supplementary charging. It is important to be cautious about the load on your home’s electrical network.
