Charging Options and Approximate Times
The Volkswagen ID.5 GTX can be charged either with a stationary wallbox or with a mobile charger. Below are the different options and the approximate time required for a full charge:
| Charging Station Type | Grid Voltage / Current | Power | Charging Time |
| Mobile charging station (2.3 kW) | 230V / 1x10A | 2.3 kW | ≈ 39 ч |
| Single-phase 16A (3.7 kW) | 230V / 1x16A | 3.7 kW | ≈ 24 h 15 min |
| Single-phase 25A (5.8 kW) | 230V / 1x25A | 5.8 kW | ≈ 15 h 30 min |
| Single-phase 32A (7.4 kW) | 230V / 1x32A | 7.4 kW | ≈ 12 h 15 min |
| Three-phase 16A (11 kW) | 400V / 3x16A | 11 kW | ≈ 8 h 15 min |
| 3-phase 25A (17 kW)* | 400V / 3x25A | 11 kW* | ≈ 8 h 15 min |
| 3-phase 32A (22 kW)* | 400V / 3x32A | 11 kW* | ≈ 8 h 15 min |
* The maximum charging speed is limited by the vehicle.
Charging Cable
The Volkswagen ID.5 GTX uses a Type 2 (Mennekes) connector and supports 3-phase charging with a capacity of up to 11 kW. To make the most of this, you need to use a cable suitable for 3-phase charging – either 11 kW or 22 kW.
Wallbox Charging Stations
The maximum charging power of the Volkswagen ID.5 GTX is 11 kW. Therefore, using a wallbox station with the corresponding capacity is recommended. Even if you use a more powerful station (for example, 22 kW), the car will only charge up to its maximum supported power. With lower-power stations (for example, 3.7 kW), the charging time will be significantly longer.
Different wallbox options:
– 3.7 kW (1 phase, 16A): charging up to 3.7 kW
– 7.4 kW (1 phase, 32A): charging up to 3.7 kW
– 11 kW (3 phase, 16A): optimal charging up to 11 kW
– 22 kW (3 phase, 32A): also charges up to 11 kW (limited by the car)
Installation and Power Supply
The choice of a wallbox station should be based not only on the capabilities of the vehicle but also on your home installation. The Volkswagen ID.5 GTX supports 3-phase charging, and to achieve maximum efficiency, it is recommended to have a 3-phase connection. If you don’t have one at the moment, you can temporarily use a single phase with the option to upgrade later.
