Charging Options and Required Time
Depending on the available installation at home or at the workplace, you can use different types of charging devices:
| Station Type | Mains Voltage / Current | Max. Power | Charging Time (Approximate) |
| Portable Charging Station | 230V / 1x10A | 2.3 kW | ~39 h. 30 min. |
| 1-phase 16A | 230V / 1x16A | 3.7 kW | ~24 h. 30 min. |
| 1-phase 25A | 230V / 1x25A | 5.8 kW | ~15 h. 45 min. |
| 1-phase 32A | 230V / 1x32A | 7.4 kW | ~12 h. 15 min. |
| 3-phase 16A | 400V / 3x16A | 11 kW | ~8 h. 15 min. |
| 3-phase 25A | 400V / 3x25A | 11 kW * | ~8 h. 15 min. |
| 3-phase 32A | 400V / 3x32A | 11 kW * | ~8 h. 15 min. |
* The charging power is limited by the vehicle’s capabilities (max. 11 kW).
Charging Cable for Volkswagen ID.2
The Volkswagen ID.2 uses a Type 2 (Mennekes) plug and supports three-phase charging up to 11 kW. It is recommended to use a charging cable with a capacity of 11 or 22 kW to ensure compatibility in all cases.
Wall-mounted Charging Station (Wallbox)
The recommended charging station for the Volkswagen ID.2 is a wallbox with a three-phase connection and 11 kW power. This is the optimal option for efficient charging. If your electrical installation does not support this capacity, lower-power devices can also be used, but charging will take longer.
Power Supply and Electrical Installation
To achieve the maximum charging speed of 11 kW, a three-phase power supply (3x16A) is required. If you don’t yet have such a connection, you can temporarily use a lower phase and upgrade later. It is important to match the choice of wallbox to the condition of your electrical installation.
Portable Charging Station
Mobile wallbox devices (or portable charging stations) allow charging from a standard household socket. This is also possible for the Volkswagen ID.2, but due to the larger battery capacity, this method is mainly suitable as a backup solution.
